Poison the Well Once again, Poison the Well has broken the boundaries of hardcore with their newest studio release, Versions. This is the trio’s fourth album and, by far, their most evolved. Each song is distinct, adding various and unique instruments to the mix to give every track a new and different taste, including mandolins, banjos, synthesizers, and trumpets. Versions begins with Letter Things, a fast-paced, hard hitting single that traces back to PTW’s punk influences. Jeffrey Moreira’s vocals are harsh yet melodic, switching from clean vocals to screams gracefully. The energy and matchless efforts that these Florida natives create in this one song carries itself throughout the entire album, all the way to the last track, “The First Day Of My Second Life.” The progression of this band shows throughout each individual track.
Poison the Well’s dynamic musicianship and refreshing approach to music makes them a step ahead of the competition, and their staggering sound results from merely three members. The originality and effort put into every album they compose is incredible. This is a band that is not afraid to cross the line and experiment with their music, which has shown in the last nine years of their existence. Versions is their best to date, being their most mature and creative album. My only advice: if you are a fan of this band, or of any hardcore/metal bands, pick this up and turn it up. You won’t be disappointed. One person has commented on this article. (1) Untitled 2007-06-21 12:55:39 I heard your music on your myspace!! You guys Rock :) |
